DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The loop Donald Trump’s private jet made above the Iowa State Fair before his visit last weekend was more than just a gesture to the hundreds of supporters — and a few rival candidates — on the ground. It was a reminder that the four-time indicted former president casts a Boeing 757-sized shadow over the race for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination. That’s where agreement about Trump seems to end. With less than five months before Iowans cast the first votes in the GOP contest, conversations with more than 40 Republicans at the time-honored presidential campaign ritual suggest the party is far from unified on much of anything else. Most voters say that until the winter chill sets in, they’re keeping an open mind, honoring the state’s tradition of vetting all candidates. Still, many GOP voters say they can’t help but weigh their intense feelings about Trump as they consider their choices. Twins right-hander Joe Ryan let his pitching do the talking Friday night at CHS Field — literally.Ryan, who made a rehab start with the Saints on Friday night at CHS Field, was not available after the game after striking out seven in four innings of work, including six in the first two innings of the Saints’ 8-5 win over Indianapolis. The only hit Ryan allowed was a one-out home run in the third inning. HIGHLANDS RANCH — For two of the leading passers in the state to do battle in the opening week of the season, it quickly turned into a defensive duel. The two quarterbacks, Logan Madden of No. 4’s Ralston Valley, and Mountain Vista’s Austyn Modrzewski, who combined for over 5,000 yards last season, were stymied in a Week Zero showdown as the teams had four turnovers on Friday night. The Mustangs’ second-half defense delivered two key second-half stops including one deep in the red zone in a 13-7 win.“In the second half, (offensively) we couldn’t close it out, punch it in when we needed to but our defensive line was huge tonight,” Madden said. “We knew they were going to be big coming into tonight and they killed it. Our (defensive backs) stepped up to the challenge.”On the fourth drive of the game for either team, the Ralston Valley (1-0) punched it in on fourth-and-goal. ANTIOCH – From the “Meet Your Beat” welcome pages the Antioch Police Department once posted on Facebook, officers Eric Rombough and Morteza Amiri look like awfully nice guys.Rombough, young and blond in his photos, is described as a family man, who enjoys wine tasting, cooking with his Traeger smoker and playing with his four dogs, including a Chiweenie.Amiri, who grew up in Antioch, loves dining out on sushi with his wife and young son. On his days off, he goes swimming with Purcy, the K9 he handles on the job. Every day he puts on his uniform, he says in the Facebook video, he wants to “make sure this community is safe for other families just like mine.”It all seemed so sweet – until federal agents in armored tanks with flash bang grenades pulled into their driveways before dawn Thursday. Authorities dragged them out of their homes, indicted them on charges of civil rights violations and released a trove of new text messages between Rombough and Amiri and a slew of other East Cont...SFMTA: Over 1 million riders reported over Outside Lands weekend

ATLANTA (AP) — Desmond Ridder and all those young offensive weapons gave a glimpse of what they they can do for the Atlanta Falcons.A bunch of yellow flags slowed their progress.Ridder led an impressive but penalty-plagued drive in his preseason debut, and the Falcons settled for a field goal with 2 seconds left for a 13-13 tie with the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday night. After sitting the starters last week in a 19-3 victory at Miami, the Falcons (1-0-1) went with the No. 1s for their opening possession. That included their last three first-round picks: tight end Kyle Pitts, wide receiver Drake London and running back Bijan Robinson. Robinson carried four times for 20 yards and snared a 6-yard completion.
