These are not new complaints. However, 50 years ago when people complained about the time change, they were quickly reminded that the major safety benefit was that schoolchildren would be able to go to school in the daylight and come home after school before dark. That ended the discussion.Today I hardly ever see anyone in the media present that as a worthwhile reason for the time adjustment. By Christina A. Cassidy, Gene Johnson and Ed Komenda | Associated PressWASHINGTON — Authorities were hunting Thursday for whoever sent suspicious letters — including some containing fentanyl — to elections offices in at least five states this week, delaying the counting of ballots in some local races in the latest instance of threats faced by election workers around the country. The letters were sent to elections offices in the presidential battlegrounds of Georgia and Nevada, as well as California, Oregon and Washington, with some being intercepted before they arrived. Four of the letters contained fentanyl, the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service reported in a statement to elections officials Thursday.“Law enforcement is working diligently to intercept any additional letters before they are delivered,” the statement said. The Pierce County auditor’s office in Tacoma, Washington, released images of the letter it received, showing it had been postmarked in Portlan...‘It’s everything to me’: Santa Clara County celebrates the purchase of Homeless Veterans Emergency Housing Facility

Just the other day, Irvin Goodwin, the head of the Homeless Veterans Emergency Housing Facility, called up 70-year-old Russell Adams to ask him how he was doing.“I said, ‘I need to come home,'” Adams recalled. “He said ‘c’mon.’ And so we talked for a minute and I said, ‘I’m on my way.'”Adams, who served in the United States Air Force that took him to Okinawa, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam, was living in London when Goodwin, the CEO of the Santa Clara County no-profit, made the phone call. By Thursday morning, Adams had traveled more than 5,000 miles to move back into the place he has called home on several occasions in the last decade.“It’s everything to me,” he said of the transitional housing facility, which provides housing, three meals a day and a slew of services, including referrals to Veteran Affairs healthcare services, for homeless and at-risk veterans. Barbra Streisand has a lot to dish about in the more than 900 pages of her new memoir, “My Name is Barbra,” including all the good and bad men she dealt with as she navigated treacherous, sexist workplaces in Hollywood. The EGOT winner’s famous male friends and lovers include Marlon Brando, a friend who wanted to sleep with her, and Jon Peters, the one-time hairdresser who became her boyfriend and enjoyed a short reign as one Hollywood’s most powerful and toxic producers. To Streisand’s fans, sexism is the reason she became notorious for being “demanding” when she simply had a drive for control and perfection. The 81-year-old star also said she had to combat chauvinism while trying to do her best work, the New York Times said in a story about Streisand’s memoir. For example, Sydney Chaplin, Charlie Chaplin’s son who was her co-star in the Broadway version of “Funny Girl,” took revenge when she rejected his advances by v...Three westbound lanes blocked on Bay Bridge

Stroud have some common ground beyond being NFL quarterbacks at the center of Sunday’s matchup between the Cincinnati Bengals and Houston Texans.Call it the “Buckeye Bond.”An Ohio native, Burrow spent three years at Ohio State and earned a degree but didn’t play much football.
